IS-IS (IS-IS) Hard Skill
IS-IS (Intermediate System to Intermediate System) is a routing protocol designed to move information efficiently within a computer network by determining the best path for data through a packet-switched network. It is widely used in large ISP and enterprise networks for its scalability and fast convergence.
Expertise Level
Level 1
Basic
1. Understands the fundamental concepts of IS-IS protocol and its role in routing.
2. Can identify the key components of IS-IS such as routers (Intermediate Systems) and areas.
3. Familiar with basic IS-IS operation and terminology.
Level 2
Intermediate
1. Configures and manages IS-IS routing in simple to moderately complex networks.
2. Understands area hierarchy, metric types, and IS-IS packet formats.
3. Can troubleshoot common IS-IS issues and make routing adjustments.
Level 3
Advanced
1. Designs and implements large-scale IS-IS networks with multiple areas and complex topologies.
2. Optimizes IS-IS configurations for performance, scalability, and redundancy.
3. Expert in IS-IS protocol extensions, integration with other routing protocols, and advanced troubleshooting.
