Process Safety Management (PSM) is a systematic approach to identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards associated with industrial processes to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of personnel, assets, and the environment.
Expertise Level
Level 1
Basic
1. Understands fundamental principles of process safety and common hazards.
2. Familiar with basic PSM terminology and concepts.
3. Can follow standard operating procedures to maintain safety.
Level 2
Intermediate
1. Able to identify and assess process hazards and risks.
2. Supports implementation of safety management systems and controls.
3. Interprets and applies regulatory requirements related to PSM.
Level 3
Advanced
1. Leads process hazard analyses and development of mitigation strategies.
2. Designs and improves comprehensive PSM programs aligned with industry best practices.
3. Evaluates complex incident investigations and drives continuous safety improvements.
