The process of systematically examining computer systems, networks, or applications to identify security weaknesses or vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers.

1. Understands the concept and purpose of vulnerability scanning.
2. Can operate basic vulnerability scanning tools with guidance.
3. Identifies common vulnerabilities in simple systems.

Intermediate
1. Can configure and run vulnerability scans on various systems and networks.
2. Interprets scan results to categorize and prioritize risks.
3. Understands common vulnerability types and their impacts.

Advanced
1. Designs and implements comprehensive vulnerability scanning strategies.
2. Correlates scan data with threat intelligence for proactive defense.
